    Terms & Conditions

The terms governing use of Brief

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using the Brief platform. By accessing or using the service, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree to all of the terms and conditions, you may not access or use the service.

    1. Service Description

Brief is a document-understanding platform that accepts uploaded legal documents, processes them through automated analysis, and delivers a structured plain-English Brief report. The service may include: document upload; AI-assisted document analysis; on-screen report delivery; downloadable report delivery; and email delivery of Brief reports and payment receipts. By using the service, you acknowledge that these components form the operational workflow of the platform.

    2. Nature of the Service

Brief provides informational and document-understanding content only. Its purpose is to help users understand the apparent structure, plain-language meaning, and notable features of submitted documents. Brief does not provide legal advice, legal representation, legal opinions, or legal strategy. Nothing produced by Brief constitutes the practice of law.

    3. No Attorney-Client Relationship

Use of Brief, submission of documents, receipt of a Brief report, or any communication through the platform does not create an attorney-client relationship. Brief is not a law firm, and no communication through Brief constitutes legal representation of any kind.

    4. User Responsibilities

The user is solely responsible for all documents and information submitted to the platform. By uploading a document, the user represents that they have the legal right to do so and that use of the service will not violate any applicable law, regulation, confidentiality obligation, or third-party right. Users remain responsible for all decisions, actions, and deadlines related to the documents they submit. Brief does not monitor or assume responsibility for user compliance with external obligations or time-sensitive requirements.

    5. AI-Assisted Analysis

Brief uses software automation, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence technologies to extract, structure, and interpret document content in order to generate the Brief report. These automated systems are designed to produce a useful, plain-English understanding, but are inherently limited. Results may be incomplete, may omit material information, or may fail to identify provisions that a trained legal professional would recognize. Users should understand that AI-assisted analysis is a tool for informational support — not a substitute for professional legal review.

    6. No Guarantee of Accuracy or Outcome

The service is provided "as is" and "as available." No representation or guarantee is made as to the completeness, correctness, legal sufficiency, or fitness for any particular purpose of any analysis or report generated by the platform. Brief does not guarantee identification of all legally significant provisions, risks, deadlines, or issues. Users should independently verify any information that may affect their legal rights or obligations.

    7. Not a Substitute for an Attorney

Brief may support understanding of a document's apparent content, but it is not a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney familiar with the user's specific facts, jurisdiction, applicable law, and timing. Users with legal questions or concerns are strongly encouraged to consult qualified legal counsel.

    8. Fees and Payments

Certain features of the service require payment. Applicable fees are displayed at the time of purchase. Payment is processed through Stripe, and a receipt will be sent to the email address you provide. Refunds are discretionary and evaluated on a case-by-case basis, except where required by applicable law.

    9. Acceptable Use

Users may not use the platform to upload malicious, unlawful, or fraudulent content; impersonate any person or entity; interfere with or disrupt the service; or submit documents they are not authorized to share. Violation of these terms may result in suspension or termination of access.

    10. Intellectual Property

The Brief platform, including its name, branding, interface, report structure, and methodology, is owned by or licensed to Brief. Users retain all rights in their own uploaded documents, subject to the limited license granted to Brief necessary to operate the service and generate the requested analysis.

    11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Brief and its affiliates, officers, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to use of the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

    12. Indemnification

The user agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Brief and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising from: (a) use of the service; (b) content or documents uploaded; or (c) violation of these Terms.

    13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

    14. Dispute Venue

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or use of the service shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

    15. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The effective date at the bottom of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
